Basic Step - L.A. Style - Beginner
Depending on factors related to geography, taste or tradition you can dance salsa in many ways.
If you ask a musician to interprete a salsa song, everything will be easy. The man will grab the trumpet, beat on clave or congas and start to sing. However, if you ask a dancer to teach you the basic steps, you could risk to receive a number of questions from him: on 1, 2 or 3? On clave? New York, Los Angeles or Puerto Rican? Maybe you wish Cuban or Mambo?
The modern salsa dance has its roots in the Latino communities that arrived in America during the last century in Cuban or Puerto Rican couple dances, in the mambo that conquers the world through easiness and sensuality. In addition, salsa is the dance wherein everyone brought what was the best, mixing in this mélange all the movements that could be used to express a story or a feeling. Nobody can say that salsa is from Cuba, Los Angeles or Puerto Rico. It was born everywhere and evolves continuously.
